Immediately saves energy and reduces costs
Mechanical Insulation involves the insulation and jacketing of mechanical systems. It is a time tested and proven system that immediately starts saving energy and reducing greenhouse emissions. It is the one system that goes into a building and starts paying for itself as soon as it is activated.
Some of the largest benefits of Mechanical Insulation include:
- Reduced energy costs
- Enhanced performance of mechanical systems
- Maximizes your return on investment
- Reduced emissions and noise
- Prevents condensation
- Provides safety and personnel protection
- Improves appearance
- Increased life expectancy of new mechanical equipment

Installation and Maintenance
The Insulators Local 78 JATC provides a wide variety of training to prepare members to handle projects ranging from nuclear and electrical power, hospitals, schools, high rise buildings and ethanol plants, to automotive manufacturing facilities and food processing plants.
Our members can improve the lifespan of existing insulation, along with making it more efficient and cost effective. Our members encourage you to have an annual audit. This provides important information to measure needed repairs and gives facilities a true maintenance program for management of piping and other equipment. The audit will eventually pay for itself and potentially save you money by having proper insulation.
Inspections and Evaluation of Mechanical Insulation
A certified mechanical insulation expert can perform a mechanical insulation system inspection or examination. This type of evaluation can determine what parts of the system are missing, damaged, removed, repaired incorrectly, any incorrect materials used, etc. Part of the inspection will verify if insulation was or is installed to the engineered specifications, if the materials used comply with the manufacturer’s specifications and if the insulation meets the existing building codes requirements.
The scientific analysis, called an Energy Audit by the Mechanical Insulators Labor Management Cooperative Trust, proves the effectiveness and the efficiency of mechanical insulation systems. This eliminates many speculations about how well the insulation is performing by offering actual proven data from a computer program, which was developed by the U.S. Department of Energy.
These audits can be performed on existing or new systems to see if there is room to improve. If you want to see some example Energy Audits from the Mechanical Insulators LMCT, explore examples in Office-Residential Facilities, Medical Facilities, Manufacturing Facilities, Industrial Plants and Educational Facilities to see how your facility could upgrade the effectiveness of its mechanical insulation.
